Our farm, the Fattoria il Casalone di Pepi Lignana, is located along the coastal strip of the mesmerising Tuscan Maremma, facing the magnificent eastern lagoon of Orbetello (GR).
A wonderful territory, subject to environmental protection, in which we respect and love. An element of which our identify as winemaker-artisans is based. A location capable of transferring unique and authentic aspects to our “Pepi Lignana” labels, promptly highlighted by the numerous press reviews sector.
In these lands, the cultivation of vines dates back to ancient times. The Leopoldino Land Registry of the early 1800s indicated the Vigna Colombi for its originality and strong personality, hence the name of some wines.
With our craftmanship dating back to 1960, we take care of our land as it is the most precious to us. Helping us to grasp and continuously improve the indissoluble union between the work of man and the wonders that nature offers. Day after day, in our vineyards, men and women are committed to respecting the times of nature, to give light to the best products of the Tuscan Maremma.
Ours is an innovative company that will inspire and introduce you to the important oenological and traditional heritage of the area, a vocation that we express by participating annually in the most prestigious Wine Expo in the world, always placing ourselves at a high level in oenology in the international field.
the Winemaker
Giuseppe Lignana, a prominent engineer of Piedmontese origins, is the owner of the Fattoria il Casalone estate. The knight of labour of the Italian Republic, with a longstanding career in the industrial world, Pepi Lignana is the soul of the company, founded by his father in the 60s. The company fulfilled the dream of leading a modern wine-making reality, which has grown over time, thanks to the passion and strategic vision of the whole family.
Combining the love for the territory and its traditional vines, with the desire to experiment with international varieties, today the Fattoria il Casalone is one of the most successful companies in the south of the Maremma – it’s wines have received prestigious awards all over the world! The fourth generation of winemakers grow and mature with the company. Together, with their sons, Corrado and Diego, the leadership of the company will be passed to the next generation in the wake of typicality.
the history of the Brand
Pepi Lignana Wine
In the 1817 the Grand Duke Leopoldo of Tuscany began the drafting of a modern land register of the Tuscan Maremma, the Catasto Leopoldino. He noted the vineyards already existing in the land of the Fattoria il Casalone. To the genius of the Grand Duke, we have dedicated ’‘Leopoldino" and "Don Leo", our white wines from the ancient Vermentino variety, typical of our territory. To celebrate the exclusivity of the "Colombi’" vineyard, also mentioned in the document, we have created the "Poggio Colombi" label, a compelling Bordeaux blend.
Also, the "Cucchetto", our Cabernet Sauvignon wine that comes from French barriques takes its name from the original definition used by local farmers for the highest part of our vineyard, a plot that has created an exclusive dialogue with this illustrious variety.
Finally, to pay homage to the noble Sangiovese, and in particular to the tradition and modernity that coexist in our label, we have chosen to call it "Cerida", which derives from the name of a famous sailing boat purchased in England by Corrado Lignana, immediately post-war.
The Cerida, launched in 1938 and still participates in the Regattas of historic boats today. The boat has represented a real innovation in the design of sailing boats, summarising in itself, the ancient concept of going to sea pushed by the wind, but with a completely new stern shape. The naval architect, its designer, Laurent Giles, cut vertically for the first time the transom of the boat, which was then, very elongated. This created a new type of transom called a ‘heart’ precisely because of the shape it thus assumes. This later became fashionable with multiple variations on the theme, earning a place of honour in the Navy Museum in Greenwich - London, where the original drawings are kept.

From the Guidone, the shipowner's flag - yacht owner's pennant or flag in English, in use in the Lignana family, derive, in a stylised form, the logo and the various wine labels declined in various colours.
We have created a colour code for the various grape varieties used to make our wines even more original.
