The meticulous evaluation process
BRONZE, SILVER AND GOLD MEDALS
In the first judging stage, regional presidents supervise their respective juries, resolve any discrepancies in the scores and re-taste all Silver and Gold medal-winning wines for consistency. The co-presidents then re-taste all wines with a score of 94 or higher for final approval.
Silver medal winners are tasted at least twice, and gold winners three times. This rigorous process ensures that each wine is carefully examined.
Wines awarded a gold medal (95+ points) are first agreed within a jury, approved by the regional jury president, then again by a co-president before being confirmed.
PLATINUM MEDALS
Dopo After a wine has been confirmed “Gold”, it is taken to the “Gold Room” where a team carefully double-checks all the details of the wine; then, re-rate the wine for the second round of judging during Platinum week.
There is no limit to the number of Gold winners who could be promoted to Platinum. Within each grape variety or style, more than one wine from a specific country or region can be promoted to Platinum level.
BEST IN SHOW
Best in Show è il massimo riconoscimento dei Decanter World Wine Awards.
